Is giving your employer or job your bank account number safe? and Huntington Bank Robbery

Is giving your employer or job your bank account number safe?

They want my bank account number to transfer money into my bank account, instead of sending a check in the mail. Can someone explain this to me?

That's how almost everyone gets paid these days. Your employer puts your salary directly into your bank account. It's known as direct deposit. If your employer is a legitimate business, there's no need to worry.
