What happens to your stock if a company goes bankrupt but stays in business?

I have stock in GM. What will happen to my stock if they are forced into chapter 11? do I just lose everything or do I still have my shares for the future company? thanks for your answers. I am new to stock trading.

Stock best answer:

Answer by donfletcheryh
If GM assets can not be sold for enough to cover GM debts, bonds etc, then the creditors will become the only shareholders of the company.

GM has debt far in excess of assets. so far in excess that there is no way the company can remain in the hands of stockholders through a full bankruptcy.

The fortunate part for stockholders is that they have paid out so many dividends that stockholders have already been paid off.

How do increases or decreases affect bond prices?

I lately have been reading articles talking about the effects taxes on bond prices but I don't completly understand it. Can someone give me a summary of the tax effects on bond prices? Thanks.

Bond best answer:

Answer by Felicia Renee
From what I understand, the only things that change bond prices are:

a) Your credit
b) Your contract amount
c) Your agency
d) Your surety company (the one your agency picked for you)

Typically the companies we see are rated based on credit. There are a few standard rates for people with different types of credit. Other companies might charge more or less for the same credit scores but I'm sure it averages to be about the same.

I can't imagine taxes affect that - aside from charging insurance companies more which may make them charge you more.

What are the top websites for investment and mutual fund research?

I am in the initial stages of building my investment portfolio and I am very adamant about doing all the research I can prior to purchasing mutual funds. I have heard mixed reviews about some of the top investment sites (i.e. MorningStar, etc.). Which sites do you think are the best for investment research?
Please note, I already have a Fidelity account; I am looking for unbiased reviews of stocks and funds (i.e. buy, sell, good, bad, etc.).
Thanks!

But if you are doing your own research, you don't care about their commentaries anyway. Since you have a Fidelity account, you have access to a lot of stock research and a good stock screener.

Foster announces major investment by Wrightbus
Investment

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster today announced that Ballymena company Wrightbus Ltd is investing almost £15million in research and development (R&D) and staff training.

The family owned company is one of the UK's leading bus builders employing around 1,400 staff.

Invest NI has offered £3.9million of support, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

The investment relates to two R&D projects and one training project. The first R&D project involves development of a range of low carbon and lightweight vehicles, and the second relates to developing an electric zero emissions vehicle. The training project will focus on management and leadership development as well as the implementation of a new operator training programme and lean manufacturing programme.

Announcing the investment Arlene Foster said: "Wrightbus is an example of a very successful indigenous Northern Ireland business which is focused on exports and growth through innovation.

"This significant investment is just the latest in the company's history and demonstrates its ongoing commitment to new product development and best practice in manufacturing and business processes.

"Innovation is a key driver of economic success and Wrightbus is an example of what can be achieved through continually focusing on staying ahead of the competition."

The projects will enable Wrightbus to improve the fuel economy of their vehicles, which is important in the light of EU Euro 6 compliance standards as well as a key factor in customer purchasing decisions.

Mark Nodder, Group Managing Director of the Wright Group, said: "We aim, through this investment, to establish Wrightbus as a leading global provider of mass passenger transport with green credentials. Through the training project we will further develop Wrightbus into an innovative, world-class manufacturing facility."

What happens to a company when the stock becomes worthless?

For example, if you buy into a penny stock at $ 0.04 and then the companies stock decreases to 0.03 then 0.02, 0.01 and eventually 0.00. When a stock becomes valued at $ 0.00 what happens to the company? What happens to the investor?

Stock best answer:

Answer by John W
You've got that backwards, the company became worthless hence the stock becomes worthless not the other way around. Nothing happens to the investor, he just winds up owning shares in a worthless company, mind you the reason why they're trading for pennies is that the possibility that they might make it big multiplied by the probability that they might make it big results in mere pennies if you're lucky in value.

Note that penny stocks are difficult to trade in because of liquidity issues, the possibility of price manipulations, the fact that these companies are either barely starting up or on their way out, they're too small for most numerical indicators to have any meaning and the difficulty in researching relatively unknown companies. If you're asking something as basic as what happens when the stock becomes worthless, you really shouldn't be thinking of penny stocks.

What are good careers with a finance degree?

I'm looking to get my Business Finance degree and want to know what careers can I go into? What will the starting salary be? I'm also looking to get my MBA afterwards too!

Finance best answer:

Answer by Koury
It depends more on your school than on your degree. If you're going to a less-selective college, a degree in finance will likely land you a position in sales or customer service starting at around $ 30,000 per year. If you attend a very selective college, a degree in finance will earn you a position at an investment bank or within a large corporate finance department starting out making about $ 55,000 per year.

The career outcomes of an MBA also depend heavily on the selectiveness off the program. I just finished my MBA at a very selective program, and I increased my annual take-home pay from $ 49,000 to $ 120,000. But I also know people who've completed less-selective MBA programs only to continue earning $ 35,000 per year.

What products can be made through investment casting?

I was wondering if I could get a list of commercial products that can easily be found and that are specifically made through the investment casting process. For instance, what parts could I find at, say, a Home Depot or Lowe's that have been made through the investment casting process? How could I verify that they were made this way? Thank you very much!

Investment best answer:

Answer by Huge
Investment casting is only really used for high precision castings that are made in batch quantities. They are certainly unlikely to be used for ordinary low price items available in a common DIY store. The process is used for items like the small cast lady, Spirit of Ecstasy, that sits on the front of a Rolls Royce car, for replica bronze statuets or high precision engineering components

How can you tell when a molecule is a polar covalent bond and a nonpolar covalent bond?

I know that a nonpolar covalent bond the sharing of electrons between two atoms is equal and the polar is not, but what does that mean? How can i tell?

Bond best answer:

Answer by Apathy
Look at Electronegativity, that means how strong an element takes in an electron. Fluorine has the highest electronegativity in the periodic table. That means say it bonds with a weak atom like Hydrogen to form hydrogen fluoride, which is polar covalent, anyways, the fluorine is so strong at taking the electrons from H that it acts like a bully and thus is more electronegative end than the H. Good Luck! :D

Edit: Also diatomic molecules like H2, F2, etc, are equal and thus are nonpolar covalent.

*Tip: Electronegativity increases from left to right and from the bottom up.

Check with your credit union. If you said you were at a bank, I'd say that you had no chance if you don't have any other credit.

Credit unions are more flexible, so there MIGHT be a chance - especially if it's not a big loan.

Why is energy required to break a covalent bond? and Bond James Bond. JAX Sympony.

Why is energy required to break a covalent bond?

Why is energy required to break a covalent bond?
A.Bonded atoms repel each other because their nuclei are separated by a very small distance.
B.Bonded atoms have high potential energy due to the energy stored in the chemical bonds.
C.Bonded atoms have low potential energy due to attractions between valence electrons and nuclei.
D.Bonded atoms have completed their octet by gaining or losing the appropriate number of valence electrons.

Bond best answer:

Answer by Iggy
I'd chose answer C.

Electrons in a bonding orbital are in a dip in the potential energy curve.

Antibonding orbitals would be a different matter.

Therefore you need energy to remove electrons from the dip in the potential energy curve.

Enjoy :)

What is the difference between a finance and a balloon finance?

I'm planning on purchasing the all new mercedes benz glk 2010..and when i checked the pricing online the balloon finance is cheaper than the finance. i just want to know what the difference between the 2 deals are.

Finance best answer:

Answer by rmoore_63
Balloon financing allows you to have low payments with a large final payment. Most people can not make the final payment and end up getting rid of the car before the balloon payment is due. Just know that if you do get rid of the vehicle, you have not been paying on the principle as much so you will still owe alot more than standard financing. If balloon financing is the only way you can get into the vehicle because of the cheaper payments, then you are buying more car than you can afford. This is the same problem you are seeing in the housing crisis. A general rule is pay now or pay later.
