I am 32 soon to be 33. Is it too late for me to pursue a career as and investment banker? I am thinking about going back to college to get my bachelors degree in Finance or accounting? What career track or career opportunties should I start to pursue that would lead to becoming and investment banker?

It's not too late, man.
Read investment books.
Try to get a temporary job for an investment company to get your foot in the door.

This is the main part of the design for this year's installment of my "end of year card." It doesn't make as much sense without the accompanying text, so please either download the PDF of the card, or read the card text here if you prefer not to mess with a PDF.

I've started a page of relevant resources/links/videos here: www.pjchmiel.com/preparedness/

Some of my friends and family will be getting these in the mail, and I will also be screenprinting some in poster form (with less text than the card and probably a vertical format). Doing all the illustrations by hand (not on the computer) was a pain in the ass, I really don't like illustrating and am not great at it, I wish someone else would do them for me. I used to always use "found" line art and photos in my work but now I'm a "professional" and all that, so I can't just reappropriate stuff anymore, and I end up doing my own drawings.

What do you really get from owning stock?

Eversince I was little my grandmother has been getting checks from Boeing because she owns stock. Why does she gets checks for owning stock or something?

Stock best answer:

Answer by drmark27
Companies that make money have a couple choices as to what to do with the money. They can invest it in other things that will make them more money (e.g. research and development, hire more workers, buy more equipment, invest in other companies) or they can give some back to shareholders in the form of a check like the one your grandmother receives. The latter is called a dividend. For many investors, dividends are a reason to buy stock. Just like bonds, which pay interest on a regular basis, these investors count on dividends as a regular source of income.

How to compare the magnitude of the banking sector and the stock market?

How can they classify a country as bank based or market based. Is there any indicator to show that the banking sector is bigger than the stock market or vice versa?

bank best answer:

Answer by Mohammad
1. For the purpose, one can compare the 'bank deposits' or 'total assets of banks' with the 'Aggregate Market Capitalisation'.

2. Market capitalisation of a company means share price multiplied by number of shares of the company.

3. The 'Aggregate Market Capitalisation' is the aggregate of capitalisation of of all the listed companies.

3. A moving average of, say, 3 years, of Aggregate Market Capitalisation can be used for the purpose, as, at times, there are wild fluctuations in the Aggregate Market Capitalisation.

What is the difference between multiple stocks available for a single company? and Stock Texture

What is the difference between multiple stocks available for a single company?

Example: First Citizens Bank has 6 different stocks to choose from at different prices:

FCNCA
FCBN
FCZA
FIZN
FIZN
and they range from $ 4-$ 210
FCNCB

which stock is a true representation of the bank?

Stock best answer:

Answer by Jerry C
It is possible for a company to have multiple classes of common stock (ex: different voting rights) and to have one or more classes of preferred stock. The "truest representation" is the most actively traded class of common stock.

That is general background, but not the explanation regarding First Citizens. I looked at the first few and it appears that they are different banks, just with misleading similar names.

FCNCA = North Carolina
FCBN = South Carolina
FCZA = Ohio
FIZN = Tennessee

How can I determine what finance rate I can get on a car? and Conférence Finance participative

How can I determine what finance rate I can get on a car?

I know what my credit score is, how can I find out what the best finance rate I can get is without going to a dealership?

Finance best answer:

Answer by Jay C
The short answer is, you won't know the best interest rate out there for you is unless you rate shop. Shop around for a pre-approval. When you have a pre-approval you also have the upper hand at the dealership and are more likely to receive a discount. As an example, let's say you get a pre-approval for a car loan up to 25k. You can walk into the dealership and find a car for 20k, and tell them you will only purchase that car if they can get it within your pre-approval of 18k, otherwise they will not get your business. Rather than lose an 18k sale, they will take the 2k discount. Back to your initial question, when you go to the dealership they submit your application to various lenders and present you with the lowest interest rate returned. Do the same for yourself(and start with a credit union if you are a member of one, they typically have the lowest interest rates because they are not-for-profit). Simply go to credit unions and financial institutions asking for a car loan pre-approval and go with the one lowest rate. Finally, when rate shopping, the actual loan you accept shows as the hard hit on your credit bureau, leaving the rest as soft hits(insignificant). This is a 10 day window. Good luck on your loan shopping!

Is the stock market entirely controlled by investors?

From what I've read and learned, investors place orders based on their response toward a company's performance and other aspects. If buy orders exceed sell orders, then a stock's price rises. The opposite would lower a stock's price. Right? So, does this mean that investors entirely control the stock market?

Stock best answer:

Answer by Common Sense
You say;
"If buy orders exceed sell orders, then a stock's price rises"

Not necessarily true. You could have more sellers than buyers and still have an increasing price. If the buyers were putting in market orders & the sellers were putting in limit orders..... etc.

I don't understand your question. Who would control the market if it wasn't investors? How do you mean "control"?
