Phosphorus is a metal. It will bond with non metals.

For instance, it can be oxidised (reaction with oxygen) to form phosphorus oxide which has the formula P2O5.

It can also form compounds by reacting with chlorine, such as phophorus pentachloride (PCl5) or phosphorus trichloride (PCl3).

It can form acids such as phosphoric acid (H3PO4) or phosphorous acid (H3PO3).
