Can someone explain to me what the career of an Investment Banker is like?
What do they do?
What do they go to college for? Majors?
Do you often find women as Investment Bankers?
Would this career have been more effective years ago before the downpour of the economy?
I was watching a movie last night about an Investment Banker that was extremely rich, and that opened my eyes to just thinking, well, what is an Investment Banker? I am sixteen years old and I don't know exactly what career I want, but I know what I am and am not interested in. This career sounds very sophisticated, and I would love to learn more about it?

They trade corporate and government securities. Many are involved in corporate mergers.
To have any hope of landing a job, you need an MBA (Masters of Business Administration) in Investment Banking from a top university.

Women still are not well represented in Investment Banking, but this is changing.
You mean the down-turn of the economy. Yes, during the dot.com boom you could have easily made a fortune. Now companies are more selective. It's still a very desirable field if you have an MBA from a top school and can deal with extreme pressure. You may have to deal with challenging ethical issues. Investment bankers are noted for being totally ruthless. They aren't referred to as "corporate pirates" for nothing. The problem with the field is that if you don't graduate near the top of your class, or from a lesser school, your career prospects are more limited. You could still be a banker or a stockbroker.
If you do become rich, consider following the lead of Warren Buffet and donate your fortune to charity.

I hope you enjoy living in New York City. I personally consider Manhattan to be the 7th level of Hell, but many New Yorkers think the world revolves around the island of Manhattan.
