How do atoms bond together to form minerals?



And, how do these different bond types affect the properties of minerals? (hardness, cleavage, etc.)

Atoms aren't exactly independent object-they usually are exchanging electrons and such. The chemical properties of the material determines how it interacts. For example, water is particularly cohesive because of something called Hydrogen Bonding, basically making water molecules attracted to other water molecules do to a slight atomic imbalance
