How do you get an Investment Bank to raise stock shares for your project?

What are the requirements that an Investment Bank needs to raise capital to either sell shares to make a new product OR start a company? Do you have to have your own capital to begin with? Yes? No?

Investment banks don't just raise money for anyone. Usually, the company has to be around for at least a few years with a solid track record before they will even sit down with you. When an investment bank brings a company public, the offer an IPO is which it goes around and sells the share to investors. No one is going to pay very much for a company that doesn't even exists prior to the IPO, even if it has an all-star management staff.

The proper way to go about it would to start up a company with your own capital (or borrowed capital) and make it a successful for a couple of years. Then seek out venture capitalist to invest in your company (very difficult), then you would try to bring it public after a few years with the venture capitalist.

Going public is not an easy process nor is it cheap, and is no way that one will be able to convince an investment bank to bring an upstart company public.
