How are callable common stock a good deal?
Why would anyone buy a stock where if it loses value they lose money and if it does well, the stock gets recalled at par value? Is it sold at way below call price?

Callable common stock is very uncommon.
Also a corporation will not recall the stock at par if the stock is doing well as they would lose a ton of money. If a corp recalls a stock trading at $ 50 at par of $ 1 they are basically saying their business is worthless and they would bankrupt themselves.
