What is the difference between common stock outstanding and common stock?

For my final we were given two different figures
common stock: 4,909
common stock outstanding: 1,000,000
which was I suppose to use to calculate the owners equity?

It doesn't make sense. Are you sure one is not a number of shares and one a dollar value? Like 4,909 shares but $ 1m of common stock outstanding? Was there any treasury stock in the question?
