Is unlimited taxation any different than serfdom?

How can we be a free country when by definition 50% taxation is a state of serfdom. 50% is all the old aristocracy could tax because anything higher destroyed the society and not because the aristocracy was not taking more by reason of kindness Can we continue to feed a massive welfare population that wont work for it's food?
