How much does a periodontal cleaning normally cost with insurance?

I have dental insurance and I have to go in to have my gums cleaned out and my dad says it normally costs $ 160 or so but my dental place says it costs $ 814...WITH my insurance. Should I call my insurance company and check up on that?

I'd make sure that your dad isn't referring to a normal cleaning, the majority of which would be covered by your insurance.
Find out if the periodontal cleaning is the only thing your dentist is wanting to do. A good number of dentists will develop a "plan" for you...meaning they'll do the cleaning on such & such day, and a filling on another. These will be presented to you as a total cost number. The price would make much more sense if that were the case.
