How do we find the greatest bond energy? and Bond Bridge - 6/19/11 - Kansas City

How do we find the greatest bond energy?

Because I have a question that ask what is the greatest bond energy, O2, N2 or Cl2?

Do we use the electronegativities of the elements chart?
So O is 3.5
N is 3.0
Cl is 3.0

So isn't the greatest bond energy O2?
But my answer key is is N2

So what am I doing wrong?
Please explain in a basic chem 11 language for me.
Thank you
We never were taught using any calcuations...

You should have a bunch of appendices with data tables listed in 'em. Find one that says "Covalent Bond Energies" or "Hess' Law". You'll get a bunch of numbers in kJ/mol, whichever bond has the highest number is the winner of having the greatest bond energy. Don't forget that O2 is a double bond and N2 is a triple bond.

The Bond Bridge was finshed last year and the Paseo Bridge, that sat next to it is almost totally gone

The Bond Bridge is the Missouri River crossing in K.C. for highways I-35 and I-29. They merge at the bridge and seperate about a mile north and go their own ways.
