How do I send money from my bank account in one country, to my bank account in another?

I have Japanese bank account (I got shipped off there to do some work) and would like to get my money out of Japan and into my US based bank account.

Has anyone done this before, or know how to go about it? Can the bank do it, and the currency conversion, if I provide them the account numbers or do I have to use a third party? Thanks.

Call whichever bank you are close to - if you're in Japan go to that bank and if you're in the US go to that bank....and ask them to do an "international wire transfer"....usually this has to be done in person that's why I say "go to" but call and see if the bank you're going to go to offers international wire transfers. If your bank doesn't offer international wire transfers try Western Union - I believe they have the ability to do this.

FYI Most banks charge a fee for wires, and there may be a currency conversion but I'm not positive on Japan currency if there is a conversion the bank will do this for you --- so you have no worries!!
As far as account numbers have them on hand as well as routing number, and as much information you have about each account as possible such as addresses and names --- this will help the process and increase accuracy !

Goo Luck and hope I've helped.. also feel free to email me with additional questions (if any)
