Why would legalization of marijuana hurt big businesses?

I know that this is one main reason, besides taxation, that weed is illegal, because big businesses like textiles etc would supposedly lose money, but how? Just because hemp can be used as a competitive material as well? That's like making polyester illegal for competing with cotton. Isn't monopolizing an industry illegal as well? Why do big businesses care so much?

PS your opinions on marijuana are not wanted here and you'll be reported if you go on a rant about your beliefs. Choosing not to smoke weed does NOT make you a person of superior moral caliber.

Hemp will have no impact other than as a niche fiber. It can not replace cotton due to its properties. It can be used in certain types of materials but not all. If hemp was the big thing some suggest, then in those countries where it is legal, it should already have replaced cotton. It hasn't. Working with big businesses, there only real concern is the impact of society, not their business.
