How to predict bond type between compounds?
i have a task to predict whether a bond between two compounds will be an ionic or a covalent bond, i have no idea how this is done.
For example what bond is there between BeCl2 and MgCl2 or AlF3 and AlCl3 ?
Bond best answer:
Answer by Bob
Covalent bonding is when they share electrons
Ionic bonding is like magnets-positive and negative bonding due to lack/too many electrons
Look at the electrons of each atom on the outer shell/ring and work it out

Bond Hall, named for Colonel O.J. Bond, an 1886 graduate and the ninth president of The Citadel, is the main academic and administrative building of the Citadel campus. Colonel Bond served as president from 1908-1931 and was an avid and prolific historian of The Citadel, penning a detailed account of the college's early years. One of the first buildings constructed when the college moved from Marion Square, Bond Hall was completed in its present form in 1939. The two wings were first completed in 1922 when the Greater Citadel was built, and since that time numerous additions have taken place. The building most recently underwent a .65 million, two-year renovation and was reopened during the summer of 1993. Bond Hall houses the School of Business Administration and information technology services.
The Citadel is a state-supported undergraduate military college with an enrollment of 2,300 in its Corps of Cadets and an additional 1,200 civilian students in evening programs. Founded in 1842 with the conversion of to state arsenals, it moved to its current campus, on the banks of the Ashley River. The 300-acre campus features buildings primarily of Moorish design, with crenelated battlements and sentry towers. Initially an all-male academy, The Citadel expanded its cadet ranks to include women in 1995.
