Is it better to get one big loan or 2 small loans from different places?

I am wanting a $ 30,000 loan. I doubt I will get the full amount because I havent built up credit at all. Is it possible to get one $ 15,000 loan from two different places to better my chances at getting the amount that I need? Or when I take a loan will I be turned down for the other loan because I have an existing loan?
Does it help that I am in the military?

Getting a 1st loan would hurt your chances for a 2nd. Plus, the more you apply, the more it lowers your score.
