Is it possible to keep my old insurance?
I just moved from BC to Alberta and am hunting for car insurance. So far the cheapest quote I've gotten for Albertan insurance is $ 60 a month more than what I've been paying in BC for a lot less coverage. Is there anyway I could get away with keeping my BC insurance?

Car insurance rates are usually based on a series of calculations. They base the rate on the type of car you drive, the age of the car, your past claims, etc. One of the things that affects the rate is WHERE you will be driving and even distance from your home to your work.
I suspect that if you call your car insurer in BC and ask them for a quote now that you live in Alberta, they may either raise your rate, or tell you that they cannot cover you out of province. It's possible that Alberta has had more claims than BC for your type of car, and so any insurer has no choice but to quote you a higher rate.
