What is a good, medium-risk type stock investment? How do I determine what is a good investment or not?

I have about $ 5,000 in junk bonds for a power utility company that just got its rates frozen be legislature *again*. (Ameren CIPS) How can I quickly choose a safer place to allocate that investment? I need some advice on how to recognize good investments as well.

If I had $ 5000.00 to invest, I'd invest it into 2 or 3 different companies to diversify the funds. I'd buy companies that are leaders in their niche space/industry. Also, I'd also focus on companies that have taken a fall, but their company fundamentals still are intact.

Some names to consider: Best Buy (BBY), Akamai Technologies (AKAM), Yahoo (YHOO)

Look to make a 20-30% appreciation and sell. Then repeat.

Good luck.

Lord Green, Minister for Trade and Export, at the Export for Growth conference at London's Imax Theatre; earlier, the Prime Minister announced a business growth package to help Britain's small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) create jobs, export to new markets, secure finance and cut red tape.

Measures include a £95 million investment from the Regional Growth Fund to benefit hundreds of small businesses. This funding will support those SMEs considering investing in new capital assets and is expected to create at least 4,000 jobs and unlock around £500 million of new investment.
