What happens if you also have a bank account overseas?
A friend of mine is a recent immigrant from china and he has some funds in his chinese bank account. But now he has opened a local bank account in Maryland. He uses the visa debit card of his chinese bank here and it surprisingly works even though the currency in his chinese bank is not US dollars. He wants to know if there is any way to transfer his chinese bank account funds to his Maryland bank?

Go into the bank and ask for the international department. They will take care of it after he has signed all the papers. Make sure he knows that his visa debit card will not work on the chinese account if there is no money in it, and they can take away his passport when he visits China if he tries to defraud them.. BTW, a credit card is the same all over the world, and thankfully so! With todays electronics and satellites, we aare all connected, providing our countries are still speking and hve diplomatic rights. The banks just determine what the exchange rate is, and it' s not always the best one!
