How do you identify the bonds in hydrocarbons?
Imagine that you are working in a lab, and you find four bottles containing hydrocarbons in the chemical storage cabinet. Outline the step-by-step procedure you would follow to identify which unknown samples have a multiple bond and which have all single bonds.

put each hydrocarbon in a beaker with bromine water (which is brown-orange, depending).. if there is a reaction it will turn colourless, which means the hydrocarbon is unsaturated/ has at least one double C=C bond.. there would be no reaction with a saturated hydrocarbon.
=) I hope this helps..X
