Can anyone help and recommend books to understand the stock market? and The Old Joint Stock

Can anyone help and recommend books to understand the stock market?

I recently gained some money which im thinking of investing into stocks. Being an absolute beginner, can anyone help explain the stock market, or any must reads before investing?
Thanks!

"The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham. It covers a wide variety of subjects.

Edit

also, "Against the gods: The Remarkable Story of Risk" by Peter L. Bernstein .

This will help you understand risk, and understand the nature of "bubbles".

Built in 1864 and designed by Julius Chatwin, the building was originally the Birmingham Joint Stock Bank. It was taken over by Lloyds Bank in 1889, and is a Grade II listed building, it's now a pub with an 80 seat theatre on the second floor. Some nice shots of the interior here.
