How to tell if a molecule has π bonds or σ bonds?

Is there any telltale way to find out just from look at the molecule structure?
For example, I know that C double bond C has both pi and sigma bonds, but how would I know that by just looking at that structure?

Yes!

Single bond: 1 σ bond
Double bond: 1 σ bond and 1 π bond
Triple bond: 1 σ bond and 2 π bonds

The information above is true for covalent bonds.
