What is a safe investment for me to make right now, that could possibly get me more than a 3% return?

I want to make a safe investment, although I would love a high return, I can't afford the risk right now. Any ideas?

In general, higher returns require higher risk. The safest investment returning more than 3% would be a bond fund or ETF; however, even these will fluctuate in value. Go for a shorter term (less than 5-year) low-cost fund or ETF available from a good company like Vanguard.

An anonymous donor who attended last year gave enough money so that every paid attendee as they walked out today was handed an envelope with a 0 bill and the simple ask to put the money to good use.

I had already made my mind up about starting something LONG overdue this weekend, but this last shove means that I can't ignore the calling to do it.
