What is the difference between hazard insurance and homeowners insurance? and Big insurance: Sick of it health care reform rally

What is the difference between hazard insurance and homeowners insurance?

I am refinancing and was wondering if I need to have both types of insurance.

Answer by Better Advice from HJ
"Hazard" sounds like they are talking about specific threats that are separate from normal homeowners. HO is something that EVERYONE needs- that is for your burst pipes, fires, hail storms....
For earthquake insurance, sometimes you can just endorse this onto your regular policy.
For floods, you can ONLY get that from the federal government. It is a separate policy & is NOT something that is EVER covered on a regular HO policy.
