Why was it important to buy war bonds during World War II?



Why were war bonds used in the first place? How did war bonds help with World War II? What happened after the war bonds were used? Why were war bonds important to the U.S. during the war?

i learned this last year but i think im correct:
citizens bought the war bonds and the money was used for supplies for the troops. eventually, the citizens who bought the bonds would get some money back. the war bonds were good because troops were in desperate need of supplies and money. economy was also really good after the war which really benefited the US.
