Is an investment bank also a brokerage firm?
I always thought that an investment bank and a brokerage firm were two different things. The other day someone who is a professional in the business industry told me that they were basically the same thing. So are they the same thing or are they different?

They can help you with similar tasks, but they are two different financial institutions. Investment banks can also help with mergers, and other corporate inquiries. Brokerage firms, mainly focus on buying and selling.
