When showing a chemical bond how do you know when to use double bonds?

In a chemical like Butene how do you know that there is a double bond?

Bond best answer:

Answer by Colin
1] the ending -ene in a hydrocarbon like this tells you.

2] when you drawn the structure of butene C4H8 you can only have 4 valent carbon by having a double bond between two carbon atoms .. otherwise basic valency rules don't work.

After visiting the Museum of London, and checking out St Paul's Cathedral, it was time to make our way over to Victoria, to see the amazing show that was Wicked.

We left St Paul's on the Central line for Bond Street. Then got the Jubilee line to Westminster (the Victoria line was closed for engineering works). Then the busy District line to Victoria.

Arriving at Bond Street on the Central line.

Our Central line tube train pulls away, after we got off it.
