Difficult time choosing my major - Finance v. Accounting?
Hey everyone,
I am in quite a dilemma as far as my college major goes. I was once a finance major but now I am an accounting major. My future career goals are to break in to a corporate finance role a a financial analyst of some sort at a large multinational company (Fortune 500) and then transition to law school to become a corporate attorney (Mergers and Acquisitions, Restructuring, etc). From what I have heard though I hear though is that finance roles are not limited to finance majors because accounting majors can easily break into the finance industry as well.
My issue here is that I don't know which major will help me in the long term for opening more doors and having more opportunities. I have taken classes in both subjects and I have legitimately loved both of the subject matter. OUR SCHOOL DOESN'T LET US DOUBLE MAJOR so that is NOT an option. I am kind of iffy about accounting as well because people say its not worth it if you are not planning to pursue a CPA certification which I haven't thought over really.
Based on this information which major should I pick to help me reach my long term goals and ultimately have the most opportunities in! Because from what I here finance has a wide and broad range of jobs and versatility while on the other hand Accounting is essentially a guaranteed job after graduation. If it helps any I currently attend the University of Texas at Austin - McCombs School of Business!

If you want to go into I-banking/Corporate Finance definitely pick Finance. Accounting majors are rarely taken over Finance. A lot of specialized hedge funds/investment banking take other degrees like engineering over accounting
