Is the identification number on an insurance card the same thing as a policy number?

Many times it is the same thing. It depends on if you are talking about medical insurance or auto insurance. The ID # for group medical insurance is the policy number. If it is an individual policy or an auto policy the ID # may not be the same # as the policy number.
