Go to a branch of a Swiss bank and you will be able to open an account with them. Remember there are bank charges and they particularly apply if you keep less than a few thousand dollars in your account. Most people living in Switzerland have a Swiss bank account. It is very straight forward to do, but of limited benefit if you live outside of Switzerland.
The interest rates on savings accounts are competitive rather than exceptional. There are other investment options that you may be advised to follow depending on how much you have to invest, but htere is no reason to say a Swiss bank would be better than any other. Swiss banks are well regarded because of the stability and security of their banking system, although even the Swiss banks didn't look quite so good in the banking crisis. Having said that, I'd still trust a Swiss bank over most UK, US or other banks both in terms of viability and probity. I was shocked to hear recently that Wachovia has been laundering funds for Mexican drug gangs.
You do not need to have your holdings in a Swiss bank in Swiss Francs. Typically you might also want Sterling, Dollar or Euro accounts.Interestingly, however, is that historically the Swiss Franc has appreciated against the dollar over the last 20, 10, 5 or 1 year periods.
