How is the specific heat of hydrocarbons and boranes influenced by rotation of atoms about the bond axis?
Also, how does the specific heat of diborane indicate restricted rotation of hydrogen atoms about the bond axis?

Answer by perplexed
Because of the change in orientation of atoms constituting the molecules, the intermolecular attractions change.for example when two methyl groups come closer, they tend to repel each other according to the popular principle likes repel.Hence even a slight provocation leads to the loosening of intermolecular or interatomic bonds. As a result the heat energy is quickly transmitted through the molecules and hence lesser energy is sufficient. This leads to change in specific heat.
