An external bank account is any account that is not with the bank making a reference or any of it's affiliates. External bank accounts can be electronically linked to each other but remain proprietary to the originating bank.
For example: I have 3 saving accounts: Bank of America, ING and Regions. I am specifically performing an activity in ING. At that moment, Bank of America and Regions are considered external accounts.
