if you're a trader, you should follow your working strategy to the book.

if you're an average investor, you might want to stick with choosing funds managed by professional fund managers and traders (i.e. mutual funds, managed futures, hedge funds, bond funds, etc.). hence, you choose the manager's performance, as compared to trying to figure out where the stock is going.
