Investment Income on a County level?

I know what it is, revenue from interest, dividends, and money from the sale of assets. But what are some examples of government investment income on a county level? Would this be like selling land owned by the county? What other things might be included, what does a county earn interest on? What do they get dividends from? I can see a county buying stock, but in what?

Typically, municipal governments will hire an investment manager to choose investments, based upon the requirements of the county. Long term investments for pension funding could be in anything from bonds to stocks to hedge funds (lots of them have been slammed by commoidity collapse) to buildings to insurance contracts. Short term money will be in money markets, commercial paper, or even bank CDs.
