Its probably not the best option for new candidates over the next 10 years: that credit crisis you keep hearing about on the news has decimated the profession both in London and in New York.

Investment bankers generally fall into three camps: (1) Strategic corporate adviser, (2) Deal maker, or (3) Private banker. What really matters is the company you work for. Investment bankers who work for the top institutions worldwide are among the highest paid individual workers in the field of finance and corporate management in the world. Six figures are common on both sides of the ocean. Pay is highest on Wall Street but positions in the City and Carary Wharf pay very well.

To earn top pay you will have to be the best of the best: top of your class: business & finance, at the best schools in the world, and most of the time you will have to complete masters work at least to an MBA. It is an extremely competitive field. If you want to be the best, you had better be a fierce competitor in just about everything you do.

I couldn't do it -- I only lasted a couple of years on WS. That was enough for me.
